COMMENTS
(i) AD monitoring with Microsoft's Replication Monitor may take
about 6 hours per 115 servers per day or 3 minutes per server per day.
(ii) It is assumed that the median duration of a network outage
is 3.3 hours.
(iii) A typical large network
experiences 21 outages per year.
(iv) With Quest Spotlight on Active Directory, administrators
can easily view and diagnose issues within an organization’s Active
Directory. Web-based reports trend analysis data over time, giving
administrators the detailed knowledge to make critical Active Directory
decisions. The feature-rich topology view interface joins the unified,
graphical diagnostic console, allowing administrators to quickly identify the
root-cause of problems in Active Directory, and promptly resolve them.
(v) When domain controller (DC) has AD service availability
issues, all its users should be automatically switched to another DC which
may be located in a remote site. All users of the affected domain controller
will have performance degradation during the DC's outage.
(vi) According to Gartner, an average helpdesk call cost per
user may vary from $20 to $40. All users of affected domain controller may
experience a small performance degradation. Cost of performance degradation
is calculated as an average time spent for a DC performance degradation
incident troubleshooting (200 minutes or 3.3 hours by default) multiplied by
employee hourly salary multiplied by employee performance degradation during
DC outage. Affected users may loose about 10% of their productivity during AD
performance issues.
