Note from the author: SQL Server 2008, like SQL Server 2005, provides a plethora of new features and capabilities, as well as the usual bevy of bug fixes and performance improvements. Microsoft, however, has identified three areas where they’re focusing their improvements: - Trustworthiness of the platform, its data, and its users: provide the security, reliability, and scalability that are required by the most demanding business applications
- Productivity of database administrators and developers: offer an array of new data-driven management solutions that reduce the time and cost of managing and developing applications
- Business intelligence: provide a comprehensive platform for delivering and consuming intelligence when and where your users want it

With that in mind, this white paper will introduce you to the top ten features and capabilities in SQL Server 2008 that I find to be the most exciting and valuable.
